UConn ECE Registration Deadline Nears

The UConn Early College Experience Application deadline is TOMORROW! All students must submit an online application by June 1, 2017 at 11:59 P.M.

2017-18 Schedules Available Soon on Power School

Counselors are currently adjusting 2017-18 course schedules as they respond to students requests (to add and/or drop classes), teacher recommendations, course prerequisites, and changes in the master schedule.  To date, a few changes have been made in the past week to the master schedule and this has prompted changes in some student schedules as well.  In virtually every instance, changes in student schedules resulting from adjustments in the master schedule have simply altered the sequence of courses in the daily schedule (meaning that a class that originally appeared in the B period time slot, for example, may now be in the H period time slot).  Given all of this, student schedules are not available yet for viewing.

Students will be able to view their tentative 2017-18 class schedules on June 2nd at 3:45 pm by logging into their Power School accounts.  Note that these schedules are tentative.

Students may still request changes through the end of this school year and should contact their counselors ASAP if they wish to do so.  Any change made after June 19 will be due to failing final grades in current courses or failure to meet prerequisites in courses scheduled for 2017-18.

Counselors will be available sporadically during the summer and will return on Thursday, August 24th.  Students are encouraged to contact their counselors regarding their availability.

Meanwhile, courses not being offered next year appear below;

Accounting 1B
Accounting 2A
AP Chemistry
Computer Art
Entrepreneurship
Introduction to Management
Music Theory
Perspectives in Music
Sculpture

PSAT Score Reports Mailed Home

Sophomores who completed the PSAT back in April may now access detailed reports of their performance on the test.  These scores first became available on-line and students should have been notified of this by The College Board a few weeks ago.  Since then, the EOS Guidance Department received (this week) paper copies of these reports and will mail home next week the individual reports to students along with their test booklets.

Students should click here to create a College Board account and get their full PSAT score report.  Students may also create a Khan Academy account by clicking here and link it to their College Board account to receive a free, personalized practice for the SAT.  Finally, the College Board provides a tool to learn more about careers and majors.  This tool is called Big Future and is available by clicking here.

For those who wish to learn more about this new PSAT (that is aligned with the new SAT that was introduced in March 2016), click on the following resources for more information;

MCC Offers New Scholarship Opportunities

Below is an announcement coming from MCC today:

"MCC Foundation is piloting a new scholarship program targeted at soon-to-be graduating high school students. Students who are graduating high school and enrolling at MCC for the fall 2017 semester are encouraged to apply for these scholarships. Applicants who meet the following criteria will be considered for a scholarship to assist with tuition, fees and textbooks for the Fall 2017 semester.
Criteria:
·         Confirmed admission to MCC (requires Banner/NET ID)
·         Enrolled in a degree or certificate program at MCC
·         Full or Part-time enrollment at MCC
·         High School GPA of 2.5 or better
·         Evidence of financial need (FAFSA, W2 or Copy of Tax Return)
The deadline to submit an application is Thursday, June 8, 2017."

The application is available in the Guidance Office.  Recipients will be notified by July 31, 2017.

For Students Enrolled in ECSU Courses at EOS

Students enrolled in ECSU courses at EOSHS for 2017-18 need to complete an application form by June 19.  These ECSU courses are listed below.

ECSU Human Anatomy & Physiology
ECSU Calculus A
ECSU College Algebra & Discrete Math

Unlike ECE courses that are free for EOSHS students simply because of an agreement made between Region 19 and UConn several years ago when the latter forfeited control of the high school to Region 19 (EOS students would - and still do - take ECE courses at no cost), courses available through ECSU are offered at a nominal fee of $25 per credit.  This cost is a fraction of the cost for the same course available on the ECSU campus.  In addition, the textbooks for students are free.

Applications are available in the EOS Guidance Office.

Students should submit by June 19 their completed applications along with a check made payable to EOSHS in the amount corresponding to the number of credits in which one is enrolled.  EOSHS will then pay a lump sum to ECSU.

For Graduating Seniors

Mailing Final Transcripts to Colleges

Students moving on to higher education should expect their final EOS transcripts to be mailed in early July.  It's during the first week of July that the EOS Guidance Department hopes to have transcripts available for mailing.
If seniors have not already informed the Guidance Department where they will be attending school in 2017-18, they'll need to do so immediately.  Without this information, the Guidance Department will be unable to mail the transcript, the final and necessary step in the matriculation process.

Transfer Credit Policy for UConn

Students looking to transfer MCC credits to UConn should refer to the transfer credit policy established by the latter.  Click on this link to learn more.  Be sure to use the drop down menu.

AP Exam Scores Available in July

AP exam scores will be made available in late July on The College Board's AP Central web site.  Look for notification on the availability of these scores.  For more information, click on AP Central.
